The stoner rock band Heezer have released a new song California, which is delivered packaged into a red glow of a music video.

Currently, the group is working on a sophomore album after the release of their debut Sungrinder last year. Nevertheless, they decided to test the waters by releasing this one-song taster, produced and recorded by Miitri Aaltonen of Kotiteollisuus.

Although the official release was pushed through the holiday season into the fuss of the new year, the song already enjoyed some air time on Radio Rock which is the number one commercial rock-music-playing radio station in Heezer’s home country, Finland.

”The chill and Fu Manchu-like riff took my thoughts straight to California, which, coincidentally, became the name of the song. I sought lyrical insipiration from the film Lords of Dogtown, which tells about the growth of a local skateboarding scene there. Snoozing while watching the flick, I could not discern between the movie and reality anymore. As it happened, I ended up on an astral journey in California. In movies, the city is often depicted as a place with lots of sunshine and beautiful people. The reality, being something else, became the partly sarcastic theme for the lyrics”, the guitarist and singer Sami Kääriäinen tells.
